Frequently Asked Questions

How often are my Saved Searches updated?

The AutoAlert (saved searches) are run automatically each time the database is updated. You will find that the databases are updated at different time intervals. Update frequencies are listed for the following databases:

  • Journals@Ovid Full Text - four times a week
  • CINAHL - weekly
  • EMBASE - weekly
  • PREMEDLINE - daily
  • MEDLINE - weekly
  • PsycINFO - weekly

The latest updates include all records that have been indexed since the previous update. Each database publisher is responsible for what is included in that update. Some publishers are more up-to-date than others with their indexing of articles.

What is the Ovid timeout for the CIAP?

The timeout is a period of inactivity after which Ovid system automatically closes a session. A timeout period of 15 minutes has been agreed for CIAP users.

Timing out inactive sessions frees up idle licences left running by users who forget to log off. It is important to note that Ovid starts measuring this inactive time from the last time an Ovid button was pressed to process a command. (Ticking boxes on a record display page does not count as interaction)

Is there EndNote functionality for Ovid products?

EndNote is a filtering software that allows you to search online bibliographic databases and create your own bibliography. Searches that are conducted through Ovid can be exported to EndNote. For certain searches in USE, the citations appear in short form in the USE summary search results page. The format of the citation depends on the underlying native resource formats and so routine EndNote processing at this stage is not recommended because of this variability. However, EndNote can be used from within a content database once a set of citations is selected and finalised. For this process, EndNote has hundreds of pre-defined filters that you can download from their website http://www.endnote.com/support/enfilters.asp and customise as you wish.
