CIAP 10th Year Celebration
Supporters and previous employees of CIAP
were acknowledged at a celebration on Friday 9th of November at Royal Prince Alfred
to mark CIAP’s 10th year of service An entertaining keynote address by Dr. Diana
Horvath AO ‘Trials & Tribulations of an Early Adopter’ highlighted the journey of CIAP
from its beginning to the success it is today in supporting clinical care.
David White and Dr Roger Traill also provided
insights into CIAP’s evolution and an enthusiastic audience celebrated the achievement
and contribution of key supporters. CIAP was wished every success for the future.
Thanks to everyone who made the afternoon such
a special event and thanks to the Ambulance Band for the entertainment provided on the day.

OvidSP Interface
The OvidSP interface, will run concurrently until
the old Ovid Gateway site is discontinued on 1st February 2008.
OvidSP features include the following:
- Basic Search - Basic allows you to just enter queries using free text, everyday
natural language, with no need for special syntax.
- Find citation - allows users to identify bibliographic entries by digital object
identifier (DOI) or other unique identifiers, such as ISSNs, page numbers, volume
number and issue number.
The OvidSp User Guide
covers fundamental information such as technical requirements and "how-tos" on searching, as well as advice on the best
search strategies.
An online demonstration is available which explains the new features including Natural Language Processing.

New Version of uSe to be Released 15th December 2007
New features include improvements to:
- The CIAP A-Z Full Text Journal List
- uSe Search - Separation of the previous category "Drugs/Guidelines" to yield two
new categories"Clinical Guidelines & Tools" and "Drug Information"
- Renaming of "Local Resources" - "Local Resources" has been renamed "Your Sites" to more accurately reflect
the nature of resources within this category.
- Re-ordering of all categories - Resource categories have been re-ordered alphabetically to facilitate ready
identification by expert and intermittent searchers alike.
The new list of resource categories to
be released:

eTG - Therapeutic Guidelines: Analgesic Version 5 released
Key improvements for
Analgesic Version 5 are;
- Acute and chronic pain — a wider coverage of the differences in clinical
presentation, pathophysiology, and approaches to management
- Interventional approaches to pain management
- Psychological aspects of pain management—including fuller discussion of
the basics of cognitive behaviour therapy
- The pain clinic—new content added
- Obstetric pain—completely rewritten
- Getting to know your drugs
- Routes and regimens for analgesic and adjuvant administration
- Special considerations of pain in older people
- Pain in children

Managing Injuries by Venomous Sea Creatures in Australia
Managing injuries by venomous sea creatures
in Australia authored by Geoffrey Isbister has been added to CIAP under
Clinical Guidelines.
This informative paper covers treatment for most injuries caused by marine life along
the Australian coast. Includes Blue-ringed octopus bites, treatment of stingray
injuries, venomous fish and jellyfish /box jellyfish envenoming (including Irukandji
Syndrome).
St Vincent’s and Mater Health Sydney - 2007 Nursing Monograph
The 2007 Nursing Monograph is produced by
the St Vincent’s and Mater Health Sydney (SVMHS) Nursing Research Committee and presents
the scholarly works of nursing clinicians across the three facilities. The Nursing
Monograph has increased in reputation over recent years and is widely subscribed by
universities, Area Health Services and hospital libraries. It is also available via
CIAP under Specialty Sites > St
Vincent's Hospital Nursing Monographs.

K2 Medical System - Training Program
NSW Department of Health has embarked on a new
project that aims to maximise the safety of women and babies utilising public maternity
services across NSW.
As part of this project a Statewide rollout of
K2 Medical System Computerised Training Program for Fetal Welfare assessment and
interpretation of intrapartum FHR will be made available to all hospitals throughout
the NSW responsible for the provision of maternity care.
Access to the K2MS training program is available
on the CIAP site. You will need to be registered with the contact listed to access this program.

MIMS are offering online, interactive training
for all users. There are two modules on offer at the moment, eMIMS Training and eMIMS

CIAP Training News
In November 2007 three librarians from GWAHS, Sandra O'Neill,
Bathurst, Michael Barnes, Dubbo and Don Keast, Broken Hill
distributed CIAP promotional carry bags to 45 Health Service
Managers in health units across GWAHS which covers 68% of the
area of NSW. Thanks for this great effort in GWAHS.

Drug Databases Updates
CIAP online resources are updated regularly according to the following schedule:
- eTG Complete (Therapeutic Guidelines) is updated every four months, recent update 10/11/2007
- Micromedex is updated quarterly, recent update on 27/10/2007
- MIMS is updated monthly (usually first Saturday of the month), recent update on 08/12/2007
- pAHM (Australian Medicines Handbook for PDA) is updated twice a year (January/July). If you have downloaded this just before the new
version is released (within 1 week) then the validation code that will be emailed to you will not work with the old version. To correct this you will
need to delete the old version and start again with the new version.
