CIAP and ARCHI Password Change

The CIAP password change is now complete. All old passwords were deactivated on the 1st May.

If you require the new password for your facility/area:

  • visit Health Support Services Intranet. Access this site from any NSW Health facility.
  • contact your CIAP Representative or your local hospital library.
  • NSW Health staff

Non-authorised access to CIAP

Since the password change, we have received considerable interest from non-NSW Public Health individuals requesting the new passwords, which demonstrates that unauthorised access to CIAP had been occurring.

CIAP licensed resources are governed by a contract that authorises access by NSW Public Health workers only. CIAP usage is now being closely monitored for breeches. Unauthorised usage significantly impacts on the cost of the CIAP subscription and this is not in the interest of the Area Health Services and other NSW Health organisations that incur the cost of this service.

CIAP Learning Coordinator Appointed

Lorraine Brown started in the role of CIAP Learning Coordinator and is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the CIAP Learning Strategy and Plan. Lorraine has an extensive background in the development and delivery of education to healthcare professionals.

The Projects’ vision is to ... ‘Provide all clinicians with readily accessible learning opportunities and support at the point of care, which enhance the effective use of CIAP resources to assist in the delivery of evidence based best practice healthcare’.

The current priority underway is the development and implementation of an eLearning package to support and enhance clinicians’ use of CIAP. A very committed working group has been developing the content outline for this package. This material is now going through an educational development process, with the first module due for completion at the beginning of August.

‘But nothing is more estimable than a physician who, having studied nature from his youth, knows the properties of the human body, the diseases which assail it, the remedies which will benefit it, exercises his art with caution, and pays equal attention to the rich and the poor.’

New User Guide - Searching CINAHL on EBSCOhost

We have provided a basic user guide for searching CINAHL on EBSCOhost. You will find this along with many others on the User Guides and Tutorials page on CIAP.

New Page - Article Requests

There is a new page called ‘Article Requests’ published under the ‘Library Information’ tag on the CIAP top menu. The Article Requests page details the options available to CIAP users if they would like to gain full text of an article that is from a journal not subscribed to by CIAP.

OvidSP News – Medline, Embase, Midwifery and Infant Care, PyschINFO

The latest release of OvidSP has been successfully implemented and the following enhancements are included as part of this release:

  • Customisable Search Fields – Display frequently used search fields in a new MyFields tab – you no longer have to select the search fields each time you perform a search since OvidSP will remember them each time you log in. Easily add or remove all other fields – now located in a Show All tab – based on your preferences.
  • New Limit to Star Ranking – Limit searches to generate results with a specific ranking, such as five or four stars. Remember – ranking denotes relevancy; five stars indicate the highest relevancy.
  • Enhanced Limit to Publication Year – You will be able to select ‘current’ (i.e., ‘Limit to 2006 - Current’), rather than a specific year as the end date, so you can stay up-to-date with the most current information available. This also applies to saved searches that you have set up to receive via AutoAlert or RSS feed.
  • Quarterly AutoAlerts – Set up saved searches and journal eTOCs and AutoAlerts to arrive on a quarterly basis.
  • Improved highlighting – The accuracy of highlighting is improved in OvidSP for both Basic Search as well as Advanced Search. User-entered terms will be highlighted in bold red and expanded terms will be highlighted in bold green.

CINAHL News

From Tuesday the 12th May the ability to ‘clear find field after searching’ has been reactivated so that at the end of a CINAHL search, the results are displayed but the find field will automatically clear to prepare for the next search or Boolean combination. When automatically clearing, all of the search limiters and search options still apply to the most recent search conducted.

EBSCO have also launched a new feature on our interface called Citation Matcher. This will automatically appear under ‘more’ in the top blue bar of the EBSCOhost screen, and is ideal for users who only have part of the citation information but want to find the record.

You can learn about this by visiting the OVID Resource Center.
