About the service

The NSW Medicines Information Centre was established in 1980 and is the State's drug information service. The MIC is located at St Vincent's Hospital in Darlinghurst, NSW, where it benefits from an established and extensive therapeutic support network.

Currently, the Centre has a staff of 2.5 pharmacists and a librarian.

What services does the MIC offer?

The MIC team can provide quick responses to enquiries or more detailed literature reviews and reports.

Specialist drug information pharmacists research all questions received. Information resources include an extensive collection of reference books, journals and international databases. These include CIAP resources, IDIS, IPA, Reactions, Herbal medicine resources and others.

The Centre's librarian can also organise rapid retrieval of published articles upon request.

Who uses the MIC?

A wide variety of health professionals use the services of the MIC. Enquiries from hospital and community-based pharmacists and doctors constitute the majority of the Centre's workload. The MIC also regularly provides information to nurses, dentists, pharmaceutical manufacturers, government departments, lawyers, journalists, students and patient support groups.
